Chaotic Thoughts
My mind emptied except for Janet's distorted rage and "she can't stand." Had Tom... kidnapped Bella? Taken her to a vet... for spaying? Just because... she peed on his tire?! Blood surged to my head then froze. I slammed down the cursed receiver, hands trembling violently. I had to go to the clinic! To confirm! To face it! Snatching car keys from the hook, I jammed on shoes and bolted out. Fumbling with the ignition, fingers shaking, I managed to start the car.

Speeding to the Clinic
Oak Street Veterinary... Oak Street... My thoughts churned; my heart hammered against my ribs. I floored the accelerator, hurtling forward. Pedestrians and cars blurred. Tom's vicious sneer, Bella's gentle golden form, that cold bill with his name—all swirled into a scalding stew. How could he... how dare he?! This was inhuman! Janet... God, what must she feel? Shame and terror drowned me. I had to see Janet and Bella—to witness the awful truth firsthand. Swerving into a parking spot outside the clinic, I scrambled out, engine still running.

Into the Hospital
Pushing through the glass doors, disinfectant and fur smells overwhelmed me. The reception desk stood empty. I stumbled blindly, heart thudding in my throat. "Ma'am? Who are you here for?" A young nurse in pale blue scrubs emerged, trying to stop me. "Bella! Janet Anderson's golden retriever!" I gasped incoherently. "Where... how is she?" Startled, she pointed down a hall. "Ms. Anderson's dog... resting in observation. I'll take you?" Ignoring her, I sprinted toward the door.
