A Confrontation Begins
Her forcefulness left me flustered. I called up shakily, "Tom! Tom! Janet's here! It's urgent!" Heavy footsteps descended. Tom ambled down, annoyance etched on his face. "What?" he snapped from the hallway, keeping distance. Janet exploded at the sight of him. She stepped closer, finger trembling as she pointed. "You! What have you done to Bella?!" Her voice soared, raw with anger.

Husband's Wrath
Tom's face darkened instantly, eyes glinting like poisoned daggers. He didn't even glance at Janet—just wheeled on me, his vicious glare chilling me to the bone. "What did you blab to her?!" he roared, spittle flying, deafening me. "I didn't..." I tried. "Shut your mouth!" he cut me off savagely, arm swinging dangerously close. His focus snapped back to the seething Janet.

A Shameless Denial
"What'd I do to your mutt? Nothing! So touching it's illegal?" He jutted his chin defiantly. "Touching?" Janet's voice cracked jaggedly, eyes red-rimmed. "Bella can't even stand from the pain! She... someone..." Words failed her, tears welling. "You bastard! You'll pay for this!" With that, she shot him a venomous glare and fled home, slamming her door harder than Tom had ours.
