Nanny lowered her collar for Husband, mocking my body. “Since your wife can't satisfy you, why not try me?” - 2

Thomas got suspended the next morning.

His hotel board sent an email blast: "Administrative leave pending investigation."

I encrypted the poisoning recording and sent it to three locations.

School server.

Stephanie's backup drive.

My personal vault.

I stared at my phone.

Then I called Patricia.

"Patricia, it's April. I'm worried about Thomas. He's been suspended. If he keeps associating with Kathryn, it could ruin the family name. You know how people talk. Maybe you can talk to him."

She was silent.

Then she said, "I'll handle it."

I hung up.

Then I went downstairs.

At breakfast, I shook my antidepressant bottle over the sink.

Pills scattered everywhere.

I let my hands tremble.

Let Thomas see.

He paused at the kitchen door.

Almost smiled.

"Rough morning?"

I nodded.

Eyes down.

Three days later, the doorbell rang.

My mother-in-law, Patricia.

Church elder.

Charity board member.

Perfect hair.

Perfect scowl.

"I need to speak with you. Privately."

I poured her Earl Grey.

She didn't touch it.

"April. You need to stop this nonsense. Thomas's career. Our family name. Think about what you're doing."

"Mom." I smiled. "At church, you teach that marriage is sacred. That adultery destroys families. Your son seems to have missed that sermon."

Kathryn chose that moment to glide down the stairs.

Wearing my grandmother's emerald ring—the one I inherited from my mother, my most valuable piece.

Patricia saw.

Said nothing.

Just looked away.

But I could see the disapproval in her eyes.

Later that night, I heard she gave Thomas a furious earful about the family's reputation.

I picked up the house phone.

Dialed property management.

"Hi. There's an intruder in my home. Wearing stolen items. Please send security."

The property manager arrived with two guards.

I showed them the deed.

Then I called the police.

Kathryn was still on bail from the necklace theft.

Violating bail conditions by being near me.

New charge.

Possession of stolen property.

Security watched while officers cuffed her again.

I submitted her criminal summons to the community association board that afternoon.

They voted unanimously.

Membership revoked.

Lifetime ban.

Thomas went berserk.

He grabbed a lamp and smashed the living room camera.

Then the nursery cam.

Plastic and wires crunched under his shoes.

"Crazy bitch! No cameras. No evidence. What are you gonna tell a judge now?"

I leaned against the doorframe.

Held up the wireless backup hub.

Smaller than a deck of cards.

Blinking green.

"You think this is 1995? You destroying the cameras just got uploaded to my lawyer's server. In real time."

He stared at the little device.

His mouth opened.

Closed.

Patricia stood up.

"This is outrageous. You have no right—"

I pulled the bank statements from my folder.

Thomas's account.

Rent payments for a luxury apartment.

Under Kathryn's name.

I tossed the pages at her feet.

"If I send this to the CRA, your son will be audited into oblivion. How long do hotel general managers last under tax investigation?"

She went pale.

A week later, Stephanie called.

She'd found something.

A guarantee document.

My parents' old home loan.

From before I married Thomas.

"This could be a problem," she said. "If he claims it's marital debt."

"Keep digging. There's more in his hotel records."

Two days after that, the hotel group's compliance department reached out.

Whistleblower hotline.

They had internal vendor records.

Thomas had been approving fake invoices.

Luxury handbags.

Spa treatments.

All for Kathryn.

All on company accounts.

I posted on the community Facebook group.

Someone using a fake profile had been spreading rumors that I abused my nanny.

I replied with one thing.

The police case number.

And a photo of my necklace.

Inside Kathryn's purse.

An hour later, my neighbor Lily commented: "I owe you an apology. I believed her. I was wrong."

Thirty other neighbors liked her comment.

A few days later, Stephanie called again.

"April, I tracked down the original loan records. The guarantee was settled before your marriage. I have the certificate of discharge and a copy of your parents' trust."

She paused.

"Also, I found something else—a postnuptial agreement you signed early in your marriage. It clearly states Thomas waives any claim to your pre-marital assets."

I opened the attachment.

Read it twice.

"This is proof. He can't touch me with that."

"Exactly. Hold on to it. It'll be useful."

I saved the files to an encrypted folder and made a physical copy.

Thomas started looking at me differently.

Fear.

Not anger.

He pulled Patricia aside in the garden.

Whispered.

I watched from the kitchen window.

I cornered him that night.

"For Lily's sake. I might consider settling this. If you sign a property disclosure statement. Show good faith."

His eyes lit up.

"Really? You'd do that?"

"Maybe. If you cooperate."

We met at the marriage counselor's office.

Neutral ground.

Ironic, given everything.

Thomas wore his best suit.

Practiced his sincere face.

The counselor smiled.

"Thomas, you wanted to add a custody clause to the settlement?"

He slid a paper across the table.

"Just a small addendum. For Lily's stability."

I didn't touch it.

Instead, I pressed play on my phone.

His voice filled the room.

"Add something to her medication. Make her seem unstable. Psychotic."

The counselor's pen clattered to the floor.

Thomas went white.

Then red.

Then he laughed.

A hollow, desperate sound.

"Fine. Fine! I'll sign the property transfer. Just don't report this."

He signed.

Pages and pages.

I watched his signature scratch across each line.

The door opened.

Stephanie walked in.

Her face was wrong.

Ashen.

"April. Thomas just transferred all his shares to Kathryn. Free of charge. Every asset in his name. Gone. He's legally broke."

My phone slipped.

Hit the carpet.

I picked it up.

Took a breath.

Then another.

"Okay." My voice was steady now. "He just made Kathryn an accomplice to money laundering."
